Stirio - Parnassos Greece
Stiri was built amphitheatrically at the foot of Mount Elikonas, which
was the home of the
Muses.
There are many beautiful sights for visitors to see. There is the famous
monastery of Osios Loucas.
The "Steirioti", which is also known by the name of Agia Sophia
of Roumeli, is a very impressive and beautiful structure, like the large
churches of the Christian world in Constantinople.
The ancient city of Stiris was built by the Stirieis people, which had as
its king "Peteos", who was coming from Athens to look for a place
to hide when Aegeas, (Thiseos's father), was after him, because he wanted
to be the King of Athens instead of Peteos.
This beautiful city comprises mountain and sea, ancient and modern history
and archaeological findings which offer to visitors a very interesting and
beautiful city, no matter which time of the year you decide to visit it.
Stirio is well worth a stop if you are travelling to or from the monastery
of Osios Loucas, and you can find a selection of cafes or tavernas where
you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.
